Lugoff is an unincorporated community in Kershaw County, South Carolina. It has a population of around 500 people and is home to the James Anderson House which was built circa 1798. Lugoff is located about 75 miles away from Columbia and 30 minutes north of Sumter on Interstate 77 at exit 22; it also offers residents access to Interstate 20 via SC Hwy 301 or US-301. Things to do in Lugoff, South Carolina: James Anderson House The oldest extant structure in the town of Lugoff and one of only a handful remaining antebellum plantation houses left standing in Kershaw County. Built circa 1798 by planter James Anderson, it is also the last surviving example among those built for wealthy landowners who resided on their plantations during that time period.The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places around 1973 as an early architectural example from which could be inferred important social information about this type of residence construction and its use at the turn of 19th century (it remained private property before being acquired by SCDNR). It currently serves as a museum and is also owned by SCDNR.
