Things to do in Jacksonville, North Carolina
Jacksonville, North Carolina is a city that I call my home. It’s hard to believe it's been two years since we moved here and one year since I started this blog! To commemorate the occasion, I wanted to share some of our favorite spots in Jacksonville with you all.
First up: Things To Do In Jacksonville NC it took me awhile to: Grocery Stores - We shop at Aldi for most things except produce which we get from Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s depending on what kind of deal they have going on. Grocery shopping takes less time than it used too because there are so many options now where once upon a time the only grocery store was Food Lion and even then sometimes their offerings would be limited.
Coffee Shops - We always go to Starbucks for our coffee but if you want a more hometown feel, try the Corner Coffeehouse on Park Street. It's near my old stomping grounds of Southmont Mall where I used to work and they have some great drinks there!
Park Things - There are so many parks in Jacksonville that we often forget about them because it’s so green out all the time. Take advantage of one of these awesome places while enjoying your cup of joe or grabbing a bite from Mingo’s BBQ…or both at once!
Outdoor Activities - The Riverwalk is still one of my favorite parts about living here even though it’s not technically located in Jacksonville. It was built to connect the downtown area of Raleigh with that of Durham and it is a beautiful walk for anyone who wants to take their time, enjoy nature, or meet new people.
Fun Things To Do In Jacksonville NC: North Carolina Museum Of Art (NCMA) - We always make an effort to stop by this museum every now and then because they have some really cool permanent exhibitions there like Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup Cans which we just saw last month! The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame also shares space with this museum so you can't go wrong stopping by either one if your interest lies more in sports than art.
Durham Bulls Baseball Game- One thing we absolutely love about living near North Carolina’s capital is the proximity to many fun things like Durham Bulls Baseball Game! We used to live in Michigan so never got to experience a game before but now that we do, it's awesome.
Candlepin Bowling- Candlepin bowling is one of my favorite ways to enjoy myself while meeting new people without any pressure because let's face it: I'm not good at bowling and don't really care about being great or competitive. It doesn't matter how you play as long as you have fun!
Bikes R Things - This shop has been around for over 40 years and they know their stuff when it comes down to bicycles. Stop by if you want someone knowledgeable helping out with a purchase or just for the hell of it to see what new gadgets they have.
Sunglasses and sunblock! These two things will make a big difference in how often you want to be outside because trust me, there is plenty more sunshine than clouds outside on any given day. And my one tip: buy them at Walgreens before coming into town. You can't find good brands like Banana Boat at Walmart (or wait until your local pharmacy stocks up).
