The Parks Department really does a great job of keeping everyone updated about what's happening around town with their own posts as well as links out to other sources like news articles or social media posts from visitors. If there's something going on that I can't attend (because it happens at night after my kids go bed) but want more info about, then this is where I'll find it plus they also have events posted so if we're thinking of visiting somewhere new, we can see what they have going on and know it'll be worth our time.

The Boise River Greenbelt is a network of walking paths that run along the river in northeast Boise from Broadway Ave to as far north as Kootenai Street. These trails are great for dog walks or bike rides (although I use them mainly for running) and really well shaded during summertime so there's plenty of relief if you're needing some respite from the heat! There are also several park areas with playgrounds at different points where kids can play while parents catch their breath or take a nap in the grass nearby. It's always such a good feeling when my family visits these parks because everyone gets something out of it.

The Boise River is a great place to kayak or paddleboard if you're looking for something more active and outdoorsy! We have an awesome little shop called Paddle People that rents boats, so all you need are your own personal flotation device (PFD) plus water shoes and maybe some sunscreen to enjoy this fun pastime in the summertime. They also sell really cool river clothing like life jackets with cinch straps, sun shirts and pants made from quick drying fabric, hats that help keep the sun off your face while still providing good coverage of exposed skin areas all sorts of things I never would've thought about before they started carrying them.

A favorite day trip destination for my family is the Idaho Botanical Garden on the far north side of town near Kootenai Street. This outdoor spot has everything from a Japanese garden and an herb spiral to seasonal displays with flowers in bloom all year long (we usually go around Mother's Day or Father's Day because they're always so pretty!). It costs just $12 per person for adults, which also covers parking.

The Boise Art Museum is another great place to visit it houses permanent collections as well as rotating exhibitions that change every six months or so depending on what exhibits come through their doors. They have interactive installations like Sunfish Pond where you can make your own art using natural materials found outside, plus drawing classes for kids aged five years old and up if you want them to get acquainted with the museum's offerings.

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is a yearly event we always look forward to! The performances are all free and held outdoors so they're great for family outings during the summertime when it's too hot inside of buildings, plus kids love getting up on stage or being in charge of running an activity like face painting while parents have time to chat over refreshments from one of their food trucks.
