The city of Arlington is located in the center of North Central Texas. It was established as a Fort for the United States Army by General Randolph B. Marcy on May 27th 1849 and called Camp Whipple until 1850 when it became known as Fort Worth. In 1909, The City of Dallas annexed all or part of five other communities that were adjacent to its then boundaries which included Arlington's territory at this time. This annexation increased both Dallas population size along with consequently increasing Arlington's because they were now surrounded on two sides by Dallas land parcels while maintaining their borders with Tarrant County (Fort Worth Star Telegram).
